What Are Pre-Workout Supplements?

Pre-workout supplements (aka “pre-workouts”) are multi-ingredient dietary formulas in a powdered form that you may mix in water and drink before exercise to boost your energy and athletic performance.

Although you can read sites like The Pre-Workout Review that review all kinds of pre-workout supplements, however, it may be useful to note that even coffee and certain types of food can too impact your workout performance.

How Do They Work?

Pre-workout supplements improve performance by helping you endure longer and more intense training sessions. These supplements are designed to supplement the nutrients that you may lack in your diet.

No matter how hard you are trying and how healthy you are eating, your body can often lack certain nutrients. It may not be possible to get all your nutrients through the food you consume. That’s where these supplements come into play. While some pre-workouts contain safe and energy boosting ingredients, but others could contain banned ingredients too. Hence, it is advised to seek opinion from a qualified sports dietician or a doctor before you take up these supplements.

Pre-workout supplements are taken around 30 minutes before the beginning of your workout, sometimes in combination with a drink of your choice. Some people combine them with caffeine, claiming that it enhances their effect.

Do You Need Pre-workout Supplements?

A perfectly clear answer would be you don’t NEED to take them if that’s not what you want. If you feel that you are already getting the best out of your body during your training sessions, then there’s no need for you to even think about taking pre-work out supplements.

However, you may benefit from them if you often feel tired during your workouts. If you’re struggling with endurance then that’s a problem that a pre-workout supplement could solve for you.

Also, remember that endurance doesn’t just increase over night. If you keep doing one and the same routine every single time, your endurance is most likely to stay on the same level as it ever was. Only by pushing your limits slightly everyday, you may be able to build endurance over the long term. Pre-workout supplements can help you push those limits.

Workouts can often be tiring and a lack of motivation may take over you. Pre-workout supplements help you break this vicious circle so you can train well whenever you hit the gym.
