CBD Pre Rolls For Mental Health – Yay or Nay?

CBD Pre Rolls For Mental Health – Yay or Nay?

Did you know Mental Health and its issues weren’t so positively viewed before as it is today? In fact, during the middle ages, mental illnesses were likened to possessions from the devil.

It was an era where religion had grown its roots deeply into the foundation of everything: Wars, morality, and social rules. A few sites have documented cases where mental health related cruelty and discrimination were faced by many poor individuals.

Sadly, this way of thinking endured until the 18th century, and by then institutions that take in people who are mentally ill (and some are allegedly crazy) treat their patients bad.

Fortunately, the current era has been benevolent to people with mental illnesses.

Several treatment options, medications, and alternatives have come up to help cure them over the years. One of these is Cannabidiol (CBD), a product that has been abuzz with theories and rumours. CBD is available in all forms such as oils, joints, edibles, and even capsules.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is a compound substance found in hemp plants. Hemp plants are types of species from the genus cannabis. It is full of Cannabidiol and extremely low in THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol.

THC is the substance in marijuana, another species from the cannabis, and the one responsible for getting you high. This means using CBD over THC means you are not signing up for any euphoric experience and instead go for more a more medicinal use.

Cannabinol And Tetrahydrocannabinol Together

There are a lot of active cannabinoids found in cannabis, but these 2 (Cannabinol & THC) are the most used. They are also plentiful compared to the other 111 cannabinoids.

There is something called the entourage effect, a mechanism for cannabinoids that allows them a greater effect in the body if used together.

100% Natural CBD products should ideally have no trace of THC. As per FDA guidelines, cannabis and cannabis derived products should contain no more than 0.3 percent THC. This doesn’t give you a high but only the best health effects:

More than .3% of THC content in CBD products will label them a Schedule 1 Drug and is restricted across the states by the Drug Enforcement Agency (EDA). And this is because that specific amount has a chance to intoxicate the user.

Below that, Cannabinol products become a schedule 5 drug, and safe to use as they have little to no chance of causing dependence or abuse.

Introduction To The Endocannabinoid System

Inside each mammal, there is a system that responds to both CBD and THC. This is called the ECS (endocannabinoid system). There are two types of receptors found in the body. CB1 receptors, which are found in the central nervous system, and CB2 receptors that lie in the peripheral nervous system

When Tetrahydrocannabinol enters the body, they bind to both receptors, triggering many various effects in the body, such as an appetite gain, reduction of pain, and a “high” feeling. On the other hand, CBD enters the body and does not seem to bind with the receptors and instead prolongs the effects.

Cannabidiol For Mental Health Issues

Throughout the years, Cannabidiol has been studied and tested in many fields, including mental health. Many types of research have shown its great help in cases such as:

As of 2020, 6.8 million U.S citizens have been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Many options, ranging from therapy and psychiatric help are available, but for some that are hanging onto their last ropes, cannabidiol was seen to provide acute relief to their symptoms with little to no side-effects, compared to pharmaceutical alternatives.

Another impressive feat is with Seizures, as CBD was found to lessen seizure frequency by 50%. In some cases, if administered fast, Cannabidiol can lessen the intensity of seizures even after it has started. Epidiolex is a CBD product approved by the FDA to use during such times.

More studies include Cannabidiol helping those with trouble sleeping have a fitful rest, those with schizophrenia, Parkinson’s disease, and even acts as an anti-inflammatory agent for those with autoimmune diseases.

Final Thoughts

If any of the contemporary therapies do not seem to work on you, you can try CBD products under guidance of a registered health practitioner.
